Frank Hamnett's 90th Birthday

Frank Hamnett celebrated his 90th birthday today at St. Mary's, along with his many many friends from the church, Stockport Heritage Trust and elsewhere. All tucked in to a buffet lunch that was provided, and friends old and new took the opportunity to wish Frank a happy birthday.

Frank is St. Mary's Churchwarden Emeritus, and has served the church well for a very long time!

Stockport Dungeon

Stockport Heritage Trust is no longer a key holder for the medieval dungeon on Mealhouse Brow, off the Market Place, Stockport and will not be able to open it as often as they have in the past.
The owners Guinness Partnership are allowing us to open on St. George's Day, 23rd April this year and we will be giving tours of the lower cell between 10am and 4pm.

£1.8 Million for the Underbanks

Heritage Trust members gather to help with the announcement that Stockport has been awarded £1.8 million pounds of Heritage Lottery money for upgrading and improving Little Underbank.

The Council has added to the grant with match funding so that Little Underbank can be regenerated and once more  be a vibrant and exciting shopping experience.

September this year will see the Trust concentrating on Little Underbank for their Heritage Open Day event, which promises to be entertaining and informative.

Walking Marple Lock

The people of Marple turned out in numbers to walk down into one of the 18th century locks while it is empty for important maintenance.

This rare chance was advertised well and today was the only day to get down into the empty lock and people queued for a chance to walk along the muddy bottom. Something to tell the Grandchildren.
