The antique Gorsey Bank footbridge is still there, but not accessible to the public. I presume they are keeping it for the moment as it is the easiest way to get workers and materials to the other side.
A deep trench has been dug at either end of the footbridge and concrete piers have been built in this trench, presumably to provide support for the new bridge.
